Following extensive investigations into environmental impact, essential services and transport, a significant step toward achieving implementation of the Gidgegannup Townsite Expansion has occurred yesterday after Parliament endorsed an Amendment to the Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS Amendment) to rezone to the Townsite area from ‘Rural’ to ‘Urban Deferred’.

Expansion of the Gidgegannup Townsite was identified by Government over 20 years ago with the Townsite marked as a future urban growth area taking advantage of its location immediately south of the long planned Perth to Adelaide National Highway (Orange Route).  Rowe Group has worked as lead consultant on the Gidgegannup Townsite expansion for the past 7 years and remains committed to the creation of a unique urban area that respects the hills environment and embraces the use of sustainable essential service infrastructure.

The next phase of work will include more detailed investigations into water management / service provisions and transport, in support of further rezoning the land to ‘Urban’. Once the rezoning has been endorsed, preparation of a new Structure Plan and Local Scheme Amendment proposals will commence.

The Gidgegannup Townsite expansion represents the first masterplanned development for the hills region which will deliver new services and infrastructure, providing positive economic, environmental, educational and social outcomes to not only the Townsite’s new residents, but also the longstanding Gidgegannup Community.
