HAVE YOUR SAY – Draft East Wanneroo District Structure Plan
Planning Minister Rita Saffioti recently announced the release of the Draft East Wanneroo District Structure Plan which sets out a long term vision and associated planning framework for a major growth area of Perth.
The plan, which was developed in conjunction with a community reference group, provides the planning framework to make East Wanneroo home to an estimated 150,000 residents over the next fifty years. The District Structure Plan applies to 8,000ha of land which has been divided into separate smaller planning precincts. More detailed local planning work will be expected to take place within these individual precinct areas.
A number of steps will need to be taken to progress the District Structure Plan, including reservation of land, improved transport connections, rezoning of existing land and the preparation of a District Development Contributions Scheme. Additional infrastructure such as services, schools, sporting and community facilities will also need to be considered.
The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (‘DPLH’) has released the draft East Wanneroo District Structure Plan for public comment, which will close on Friday 20 December. The feedback will then be considered by the Western Australian Planning Commission before it approves the final District Structure Plan.
